Each month, OpenContrail will highlight a developer who has been an active contributor in the community.  These spotlights offer a glimpse into what has been done, and ideas into what can be done in order to realize the benefits of network virtualization.

Ludovic Hazard

January 2017 Spotlight – Ludovic Hazard

Ludovic Hazard is the IBM Team Leader of Client Innovation Center Networking Services. He currently focuses on cloud orchestration and automation involving AI and DevOps adoption in IT infrastructure including networking from solution design, solution provisioning and lifecycle management. In addition, Ludovic is an IBM IT Architect expert, patent inventor and professor at a technical university.
IBM and Juniper Networks are working together to help customers build the best IT infrastructures to realize the power of a Smarter Planet. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected and intelligent, the connection points-the network-must deliver new levels of performance, reliability, and security.

Andreas Jonsson

September 2016 Spotlight – Andreas Jonsson

Andreas works as Security specialist for Robert Malmgren AB, a small cyber security consultancy firm in Sweden. He is currently working together with IPnett to increase security in OpenContrail.
IPnett delivers community cloud solution for the research and education sector in the Nordics. IPnett is extremely dedicated to protecting customer data, which makes it easy to propose, get approval and implement new security measures to protect that data.

Varun Lodaya

May 2016 Spotlight – Varun Lodaya

Varun Lodaya is a Senior DevOps Engineer at Symantec. He is actively involved in design, development and monitoring of different SDN solutions at Cloud Platform Engineering group at Symantec.  His previous stints involve working on Cisco’s load balancers and core nexus switches.
Symantec Corp manages it’s own private IAAS cloud based on Openstack and OpenContrail. It’s already venturing into managing hybrid cloud environments with their public cloud offerings in AWS.

Jean-Philippe Braun

March 2016 Spotlight – Jean-Philippe Braun

Jean-Philippe Braun is a software engineer working on Cloud/SDN Technology at Cloudwatt, a French public cloud provider. Jean-Philippe has more than 10 years of experience in Opensource projects as a developer and system administrator. Jean-Philippe likes to write python code and recently released contrail-api-cli a tool that provides a shell like experience to interact with the Contrail API server.
Cloudwatt is a French public sovereign cloud, built with the purpose of making digital power available to French and European companies, through simple and cost-efficient compute and data storage services. Cloudwatt has a special focus on security, transparency and reversibility, and leverages secure data-center locations in France.

Pradosh Mohapatra

February/March 2015 Spotlight – Pradosh Mohapatra

 Pradosh Mohapatra is co-founder of Sproute Networks. He has over 16 years of experience in networking and system architecture, with focus on routing protocols. Before Sproute, he led the routing protocol development at Cumulus Networks. His previous stints include Cisco systems as a distinguished engineer, Procket Networks, and Tasman Networks. He is the author of several IETF standards related to BGP and MPLS.
Sproute Networks is a stealth-mode startup with focus on both products and services.  We offer software solutions in Networking technologies. Sproute supported NTTi3 build an enterprise networking infrastructure using OpenContrail, OpenStack and Sproute proprietary technologies.

Andriy Berestovskyy

November 2014 Spotlight – Andriy Berestovskyy

Andriy Berestovskyy is a Software Engineer at Semihalf. His first degree is applied mathematics. Andriy’s passion is networks, and he is a certified network professional. At the very beginning of his career, Andriy  was developing software to manage electronic microscopes and spectrophotometers. Then for a decade he worked in telcos, developing VoIP, network management and other cool software.
 Semihalf is a privately owned company based in Kraków, Poland. They specialize in embedded systems design and development, with expertise in both software and hardware. Solutions and technologies developed by Semihalf can be found in a wide range of products, from simple commodities to heavy duty carrier-class network devices, industrial robotics and protecting national security. Semihalf supports open source and our developers are keen contributors to the FreeBSD, Linux and U-Boot projects.

Takashi Sogabe

October 2014 Spotlight – Takashi Sogabe

 Takashi Sogabe is a Software Engineer at Internet Initiative Japan Inc. and focus on developing turn-key solutions for hybrid clouds based on OpenStack. His main areas of expertise lie in OpenStack, Embedded Systems and Designing ISP-grade networks.
 IIJ provides a variety of reliable and highly value-added solution services, including Internet access, outsourcing, and systems integration as a comprehensive corporate group for all network usage requirements. IIJ has been developing low cost and energy-efficient container-unit data centers that are most appropriate for cloud environments.

Sylvain Afchain

August/September 2014 Spotlight – Sylvain Afchain

 Sylvain Afchain is a Senior Software Engineer at eNovance. His main focuses are Cloud/SDN and NFV solutions. He has been involved in the Openstack community for the past three releases, especially in the network virtualization area. He is working on features to improve the scalability and the high availability of Neutron. He started to contribute to OpenContrail few months ago, trying to address neutron API parity issue, especially with his source NAT contributions.
 eNovance is one of the top 10 companies contributing of Openstack. eNovance helps its customers to build, deploy and run cloud computing infrastructure for Private or Public Cloud uses.  eNovance main references are with the telecommunications and finance industries.

Thuleau Édouard

July 2014 Spotlight – Thuleau Édouard

 Édouard (Doude) Thuleau is a Software Engineer Edouard Thuleauworking on Cloud/SDN Technology at Cloudwatt, a French public cloud provider. Doude started to contribute to OpenStack since 2010 and his primary focus has been delivering network virtualization solutions for OpenStack. Recently, he has been leading the effort to stabilize the OpenContrail Neutron plugin and complete the source NAT integration.

Michal Dubiel

June 2014 Spotlight – Michal Dubiel

 Michał Dubiel is a Senior Software Engineer at Semihalf. He has been involved with a number of projects in the areas spanning from low-level kernel programming to development of components for distributed systems. He was a lead developer of the FreeBSD port to the families of QorIQ DPAA SoCs and later on of the highly parallel, lock-less user-space TCP/IP stack for multicore architectures. Recently, he has been working on the port of the OpenContrail and OpenStack projects for the FreeBSD platform.

Sébastien Badia

May 2014 Spotlight – Sébastien Badia

 Sébastien (Seb) Badia is a Software / Systems Engineer at eNovance, Paris France based provider of open cloud computing software. Seb concentrates on projects including packaging, system administration (automation, configuration management, ci) and OpenStack in general. Seb is a co-founder of the non-profit organization LDN, Lorraine Data Network, which is a neutral and open Internet access provider. In addition, he is actively involved in the Federation FDN, a federation of 25 non-profit Internet access providers around France, and also makes contributions to Gitoyen (an alternative network operator) and Debian (open operating system initiative).
eNovance deploys its services around two lines of business, the first one is around the development, integration, operation and support of cloud computing infrastructure for Private Cloud uses or for Public Cloud Services Providers. The second line of business is on distributing and managing critical web applications on the world’s largest Public Clouds such as AWS, Google Compute Engine, RackSpace, Cloudwatt and more. In less than 3 years, eNovance has become the 7th largest global contributor to the OpenStack initiative and the only Europe based company to serve on the board of directors of OpenStack.

Bartłomiej Wołowiec is a Software Engineer at CodiLime (www.codilime.com), Warsaw, Poland based software engineering company established by globally recognized experts in mathematics and computer science from the University of Warsaw (incl. gold medalists of world championships in team programming – ACM ICPC 2012).

About Gengliang Guo and Team: The Chinese society, like many Asian societies, is a collectivistic society where group goals take precedence over individual goals, and honors are shared with the team who earned them together. As a result, OpenContrail’s March 2014 spotlight developer has been attributed not just to an individual, but his whole team who have been investigating and integrating OpenContrail into their carrier-cloud based project.
Gengliang Guo, technical manager, and his team of senior software engineers, Yuchang Wang, Liming Wang and Yan Zhao. They all work for CertusNet Corp, a fast growing high technology company providing core networking and communications technologies and software platform for the next-generation Communications Service Providers (CSPs). Specifically this team is part of CertusNet’s  Cloud Computing Business Unit that design and develop complete cloud computing and virtualization solutions for carrier-grade CSPs. Gengliang’s team is responsible for a key piece in the cloud puzzle – network virtualization and orchestration.

Nachi Ueno

February 2014 Spotlight – Nachi Ueno

Nachi Ueno is a Software Engineer for Cloud/SDN Technology at NTT 
Innovation Institute Inc. (NTT i³). 
NTT i³ is the new research and development arm of the NTT Group, a global leader in information and communications technology. NTT i³ focuses on solutions that build on Cloud Computing, Enterprise Mobility, Analytics and Security to deliver customer centric business outcomes.  Nachi is one of the OpenStack Neutron core developers with 2.5 years community experience in NTT i³.

Noel Krahn

January 2014 Spotlight – Noel Burton-Krahn

Noel Burton-Krahn is a Senior Distributed Systems Engineer at Piston Cloud Computing, mostly working out of Victoria, BC, Canada (eh!). Noel’s been developing software for over 20 years.  His research interests include Linux kernel development, process replication, and fault tolerance.
Piston OpenStack™ is a software product that uses advanced systems intelligence to orchestrate an entire private cloud environment using commodity hardware.

John Deatherage

December 2013 Spotlight – John Deatherage

John Deatherage is currently taking some time off, after spending almost 20 indefatigable years in the tech world.  His passions lie in InfoSec, networking, and   automation, and he recently started the Silicon Valley NetDevOps group on meetup.com.  You can find him on Twitter as @routelastresort
